Hong Kong Dignity Institute (HKDI) partners with artist illustrator and mental health advocate Erin Hung to bring to life a playfully poignant children’s story of self-compassion, about four animals learning to embrace their unique differences as strengths, not weaknesses. In the story, we follow four animals —a lion, a tiger, an elephant, and a monkey— who at first reject physical traits about themselves that felt defective. However, when facing the desire to win a basketball tournament together, and coached by a wise horse, they slowly learn to leverage their differences for teamwork. Ultimately, they find that the most important prize was not a trophy, but learning to fully embrace their own skin as well as the differences in each other.
